Emily is facing an unimaginable challenge right now

This is my Niece Emily Gaule, she is 17 years old. Recently she has been diagnosed with a very aggressive form of ovarian cancer which is commonly only seen in woman aged 60+. In April Emily had pains in her side, her Mother Jacky Dunne contacted their GP for an appointment hoping it was nothing or maybe a cyst, Emily went to the GP after a wait and was sent for a scan. Following the scan Emily's mother received a phone call to take Emily straight to Drogheda to Our lady of Lourdes Hospital. When they arrived Emily had some tests and her and her parents were told that a 10cm mass showed up on one of Emily's Ovaries. They planned to remove the mass, they tried to do this surgery and weren't successful, they then planned to take a biopsy and had difficulty getting this, they did take a biopsy of a nearby area and the results came back inconclusive. After spending the majority of her Easter holidays in this hospital the team looking after Emily told her and her parents they were referring Emily to The Mater Hospital In Dublin. Emily went with her Mam as an outpatient and having reviewed the scans and biopsy results they decided to rerun tests and did a scan and saw that the mass had grown to 12cm. Emily was then kept as an inpatient to have further testing. It was suggested that Emily may have a germ cell tumour and would need a combination of Chemo and surgery. Fast forward to Tuesday 13th of May, Emily was told she had a very aggressive cancer called High Grade Serous Carcinoma which has spread and was stage 2, possibly stage 3. Emily had a lump in her neck also and when the doctors reviewed this lump they were concerned that the cancer had spread through her lymphatic system and took a biopsy of the lump. Emily was brought back into the Mater again as an inpatient and a portacath was placed and by Friday 16th May Emily was commenced on high doses of chemotherapy followed by a regime of oral chemo and multiple other medications, Emily will have this treatment now every 3 weeks, each cycle will last 5 days and Emily will spend a lot of time visiting the mater for overnight stays etc.

I set up this fundraiser to Help My brother, his partner and other daughter get through this time without having to worry about financial strain. Each time Emily Stays in hospital one of or both of her parents need to stay in a nearby hotel costing on average €240 a night that's with hospital rates. They have already spent 6 nights in said hotel and prices vary mostly going up. Because Emily is 17 she's not covered under any children's charities or adult charities leaving her in that grey area of being an adolescent. There may be some funding or grants available but none have come to surface yet.

Emily will lose her beautiful curly hair due to the chemotherapy so has been with her mam to see a specialist about purchasing a wig.

Emily just finished 6th year, and graduated Wednesday night. She's a young girl with a whole life ahead of her. She needs all the prayers and positive vibes to help kick cancers ass because of how aggressive her cancer is thankfully The Mater Hospital have moved fast and are being very thorough with Emily's care and for that her family are very grateful. No family should have to face this type of diagnosis. It is truly heartbreaking and we are all devastated. But thank you everyone for the support, it means a lot to my brother's family right now and the focus now is to Get Emily fit and well again
