Peter Murdock and Family Kingston
Donation protected
Peter Murdock is a nice guy. Sometimes even the nicest guys get scary, life-changing news. A few weeks ago Peter learned that he requires a double lung transplant. As a husband, and father of three beautiful little girls, this news was not welcome. Family and friends have watched Peter suffer for years with a number of health concerns including Crohn's Disease, Dermatomyositis, Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Most recently he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. In a nutshell this means that scar tissue is forming in Peter's lungs, preventing them from working at a healthy capacity.
So what else does this mean? Well, it means that in the next few weeks Peter will have to relocate from our hometown here in Kingston, ON to Toronto, ON where he will begin the process of preparing for the transplant at Toronto General Hospital. A requirement of a transplant patient is to have a support person 24 hours a day. This means that Bobbie, Peter's wife and one of my dearest friends, will leave her job to move to Toronto with him. It is not permissible or feasible to deal with children while in the transplant program. This means that Peter and Bobbie will be leaving their three girls home and that the girls will require a caregiver. Peter and Bobbie will not be earning any money while off work. They will have to maintain a household here in Kingston for their girls as well as a new household in Toronto. It is estimated Peter will be in Toronto for six months. That is a lot of time for two parents of three young children to be without an income. Additionally, the medication Peter will be required to take is estimated to cost between $2000-$4000 a month.
As a close family friend, I have seen the tears and know the worry my friends are faced with. It would be so wonderful if we could raise enough money so that Peter and Bobbie don't have to leave for Toronto worried about household bills, how their daughters will receive the things they need, how they will afford to pay for medication when they aren't able to work. At this time the only thing they should be worried about is their family and doing whatever it takes to get Peter home with new lungs and healthy. Every dollar donated will help. Please help show this family their community cares. Many thanks, Krista Byne
