I am setting up an emergency fund for my brother Steve.

Steve has a cognitive disability that has severely worsened in the past few years. In short, he can't retain any information he learns. He is also dyslexic and only moderately literate. This makes holding down a job impossible. 

Steve wants to work. He applies for jobs and gets some of them, but only lasts for a couple of weeks. He is fired due to his inability to retain information.

This emergency fund is necessary because Steve is completely out of money. We have tried to support him, but we are tapped out.  He came within two hours of being thrown out of his apartment last week due to a bounced rent check. This scared all of us because he has nowhere to go. He is literally one bad check away from the street.

We are appealing his denial of SSI benefits.  This process will take around six months, if we are lucky. The money donated will go straight toward paying Steve's housing and cell phone bill. Please be assured that these expenses have been kept to a minimum, and not a dime will be wasted.

Steve is a good man who is battling circumstances beyond his control. Any donation is greatly appreciated and will be used judiciously.
