Sgt. Mark D. Meyers proudly served in The United States Marine Corps from 2003 to 2007. Sgt. Meyers served as a MOS 3521 diesel mechanic, completed machine gunner's course before deployment and in early 2004 he was attached to 7th Engineer Support Battalion "Charlie Co", a combat engineer company.

In November 2004, Sgt. Meyers took part in frontline involvement during the Battle of Fallujah which included searching houses, buildings, and providing security. Sgt. Meyers was sent back to Fallujah in 2006 on his second deployment. Both deployments included long distance convoys, recovery of disabled vehicles, IEDs, small arms fire, multiple close calls, and lost friends.

Since his honorable discharge in 2007, Sgt. Meyers has struggled with anxiety/panic attacks in public settings, withdrawal from family and loved ones, self isolation, difficulty falling asleep/staying asleep due to hypervigilance and missing out on family/life events. In addition, there are only a few, select stores he is able to visit. These trips to the store must be quick and can only be made for essential items due to his hypervigilance.

Sgt. Meyers and his family are hopeful that a K9 Service Dog will help him to be able to attend his kids' school functions (band concerts, future graduation, other social events), give him a sense of security to do any type of retail shopping, and give him a partner to ease his hypervigilance and anxiety in public settings.

Your donation will help Sgt. Meyers and his family pay for a K9 Service Dog. Funds will go solely to the purchase of a K9 Service Dog, the K9 training program, as well as private training for the dog and Sgt. Meyers as a team. Services will be provided by Joint Task Force K9s in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (https://jtfk9s.com).

Note from Sgt. Meyers: First and foremost, thank you for this unique and potentially life changing opportunity. The outcome that I am wanting is to get some normalcies back in my life. I want to be the husband and father I am meant to be. I want to feel comfortable when I go out. I want to be able to go into stores, restaurants and go to events and live a "normal" life like I used to have.
