K9 Heat Alert and Deployment System

Clay County, North Carolina, population 10,915, is located in the mountains of western North Carolina. Although the county is Appalachian in most senses of the word, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office is forward thinking and has hired 2 new K-9 deputies, Sarah and Phantom, who happen to be pit bulls trained in drug and other contraband detection.
Sarah and Phantom sometimes spend long hours in their handlers’ patrol cars. During the summer, even in the mountains the days can be brutally hot, especially for dogs left in a car.

Fortunately, there is equipment available to protect these trained canine deputies – K9 Heat Alert and Deployment Systems with Pagers. These units will alert the deputy via pager if the heat rises above a preset temperature, and will roll down the windows, allowing the dog fresh air until the deputy can return to the patrol car.

The cost for this equipment exceeds the budget amount set by the Clay County Commissioners for the Sheriff’s Office, so the Clay County Sheriff’s Auxiliary has set up a GoFundMe account in order to purchase two K9 Heat Alert systems for Phantom and Sarah.

Our goal is $3500, which will cover the cost for both units, including pagers and equipment to roll down the windows.  Any size donation will be appreciated.
