Top Dog Recovery K-9 Django (Retired)

At the end of July I made a trip up to Northern California with Django and my other dog Loki. On July 30th Django had ate his food like he regularly does and it felt like a reasonable time had passed. *Note - Django is still very attached to Heather and has pretty bad separation anxiety when I leave* So I left to go to the store and was gone for maybe an hour, my folks were watching the dogs. When I returned my parents told me that Django had thrown up his food and had been unable to relax till I got back. I noticed Django was acting very different by pacing, not able to get comfortable and unable to throw up. I of course called my old K9 trainer, Daniel Inglis, who validated my thoughts on taking Django to a vet right away. I won’t lie I drove code 3 (cop lingo for very fast) in my personal vehicle to the nearest vet who would take us(20 mins away). The first vet we saw took x-rays and showed me what appeared to be Django’s stomach that had some bloating to it. The vet stated it didn’t appear that Django had torsion at this time. The vet was nice, but I could tell he was not confident in any decision making when it came to treating Django so I made the decision after speaking with my K9 trainer and the K9 Vet, who had been treating Django when he was still working, to take Django to an emergency vet. I then drove code 3(really fast) to a emergency vet in Sacramento @ because I could tell Django appeared worse. Because of Covid I was not able to go into the vet clinic with Django so when we arrived at the emergency vet they took him away and told me he was in critical condition. Django was suffering from bloat and torsion and needed emergency surgery. I of course was feeling pretty helpless and super concerned that my old partner was in pain and might possibly not be around anymore. So unable to make this long story short Django made it out of surgery and is doing great. Not only is Django brave but he is so resilient, even the vets were impressed with his bounce back just a day after the surgery. I’m happy to say Django is doing much better and is back home up to his old mischievous ways. I’ve always said it that Django and I are just better together. Now fast forward to the following weekend I’m back down south Django is recovering well. Then on Saturday Django began to vomit bile and had the runs. I knew he wasn’t feeling well even though he was acting normal. Django was taken to the emergency vet in Ventura where they did an ultrasound and found irregularities in his stomach and they recommended surgery. They did the surgery found a stitch came loose and one of his intestines had gotten twisted up. All was fixed and his stitches were reinforced. Django is out of surgery and should be coming home soon. With great surgeons, trainers and K9 vets we get to be together for hopefully a very long time.
