Dear Family and Friends,
As some of you know, Jake plays for a basketball team called Havoc City Elite. The team is comprised of 8th graders from areas in and around the Washington, DC metro area. Many of the players on the team are ranked in the DMV (Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia) and plan to attend elite basketball high schools with the hope of playing Division 1 basketball in college and beyond. While this is not the trajectory Jake will ultimately choose, he feels incredibly fortunate to be on a team with such talented coaches and players. He recently told us, “Havoc is the most fun I’ve ever had playing basketball. I’m learning so much, working hard, getting better and I love the kids and coaches.”
The team has an aggressive travel schedule for the Spring/ Summer, attending many national-level tournaments to showcase the team’s talent and play against high-level competition. Jake knows he is lucky to have the support of his family and feels fortunate that we have the ability to cover these expenses. He also sees first hand that most of his teammates are not nearly as fortunate. This has been an invaluable lesson for him beyond the just the game of basketball.
As you can imagine, we help out in a number of ways, and the team does extensive fundraising, but the costs of uniforms, gym permits, travel expenses and tournament fees add up. We are establishing this go fund me page in an effort to defray the costs of the tournament fees listed below.
Havoc City is a non-profit organization, so your donation is tax deductible. Please know that any donation will go directly to helping a less fortunate, hard working, determined and driven child get one step closer to achieving their dream.
We thank you in advance for any support for the team. While we were hesitant to ask family and friends to donate, we felt like we wanted to do more to help this team and these kids that we see working so hard. After all, it takes a village.
Janine, Stephen and Jake
