Hello everyone! First I want to thank you for taking the time to read about our precious girl and the emergency situation she’s undergoing. Now, I need to let you know a little bit more about this precious girl. She has a bigger heart than anyone I know. Everyone that meets her becomes her friend for life. She loves kids and puppies, always ready to play.
We have been so lucky to have her in our lives. She loves the outdoors, swimming, hiking and camping as much, if not more than we do. She does anything that is asked of her from jump in the bath tub when asked to trimming her nails with a polite acceptance of the job at hand. She’s just the Best!
Our hearts are broken seeing the condition she has just gone through and the long recovery that lays ahead of her. Yesterday she woke up and clearly let us know that something was wrong. She was clearly in pain not wanting to eat and moving slowly. The vet did an exam, found a UTI and since she was so stoic even wagging her tail at the vet we thought that was all. Went home and clearly something bigger was at hand. She wasn’t able to lay down and was very stiff in her posture so the vet asked us to come back stat for a re evaluation. When we arrived back at the vet’s office she wasn’t using her rear legs and any movement made her eyes enlarge with reaction to the pain. We broke down and balled seeing her dramatic change. The vet told us she was displaying signs of spinal compression and she needed an emergency MRI. Only place that offered this was a 3 hour car ride away. We immediately loaded her in the car and took the long painful ride to the emergency vet office who was awaiting for her arrival.
It was the longest ride any pet parent would have to take with every bump, turn and braking causing extreme pain as she was in my arms unable to lay down or receive any relief from pain because she had to be able to show the neurologist how she was feeling. We cried together the whole long ride there.
Once at the emergency vet she was evaluated and an unbelievable estimate was presented to us to get her the next steps she needed. $15,000 for the MRI and immediate surgery it was likely to show she needed. We had to show we could give at least half of that in order for them to call in the neurologist. No matter what you think you might do at this point, when you see your precious fur baby in so much pain you are ready to sell your house and anything you own to get her the care she needs. We were able to increase our limit in a resource we have, even though we have no idea how we’re going to be able to pay for it and they call in the specialist.
Of course the specialist falls in love with her and she feels she’s able to feel pain in her toes enough that her chances of recovery are 80-90%. That was finally some good news. Everyone falls in love with this beautiful girl. Here is a picture of her laying in the arms of her vet since she was a puppy.
At this point we feel comfortable with the care at hand and we take the long drive home anxiously anticipating our updates as the MRI and surgery are about to begin.
We received a call after the MRI saying she had a severely ruptured disc covering 4 disc spaces and surgery was an absolute necessity. 3-4 hours after that call we were called and notified that she did great in surgery and was even showing signs of pain when she was under anesthesia. We are currently waiting for her next status update but are preparing for the long recovery that lays ahead of her.
Again thank you for taking the time to read this. We understand funding is tight for everyone in this crazy world right now and we ask if you are able to spare anything at all that can help her please do. Even a prayer is greatly appreciated.
We are ready for helping her through the long recovery she has ahead of her and we hope to see her able to go on many more walks in the woods again this summer and swims at her favorite swimming holes. She is only 8 years old and has many good years ahead of her.
Thank you from the very bottom of our hearts for any help and prayers you are able to give.
