As many of you know, Debbie has been at ANMC in Anchorage and may be going into hospice care very soon. Debbie’s roots run deep in the rugged beauty of Bristol Bay. Born and raised in South Naknek, Alaska, she grew up amidst the wild rivers and endless summers that define our Alaskan way of life. From a young age, she embodied the spirit of the region—learning the rhythms of the salmon runs, helping her family with the seasonal harvests, and forging lifelong bonds in a tight-knit community where everyone looks out for one another. Those early years shaped her into the strong, compassionate woman we all know, teaching her the values of hard work, generosity, and perseverance.

As she grew older, Debbie continued her path in King Salmon and Naknek, where she became a pillar in the local fishing industry, working tirelessly on the beaches and boats during the bustling salmon seasons, ensuring that families like hers could thrive. Debbie was well known for her volunteer work, organizing events that brought people together (especially her food!)—whether it was holiday gatherings, youth programs, or support for elders. Her infectious laughter and kind heart made her a go-to person for advice, a listening ear, or a helping hand.

Through it all, Debbie’s faith and optimism shone brightly, even in tough times like harsh winters or economic challenges in the region. She touched countless lives, from neighbors to newcomers, always with a warm smile and an open heart.
