Funeral for Brendan Sheehan

Donation protected
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Brendan Sheehan passed away from cancer surrounded by his daughter Ally and wife of 39 years, Julie-Anne.

Anyone who knew Brendan knows how hard he fought over the seven years of his diagnosis, which included six major surgeries, extensive radiation and numerous rounds of chemotherapy. Right up until his last days, he was working on volunteer projects, reaching out to friends, and using his one good hand to ensure successful developments for the Hockey Club. Always a fighter.

Brendan was an inspiration to hundreds of people in a range of communities. He coached hockey teams of all ages for over 40 years, had his volunteering and impact recognised by naming Pitch 2 in his honour, achieved incredible outcomes for under-represented communities whilst working for Sport and Recreation Victoria, and made lifelong friends everywhere he and his family went.

He was selfless, strong, loyal and had endless amounts of passion. Brendan was always an advocate for equal opportunity in all areas and worked tirelessly to support and promote women’s sport.

An amazing father and husband, he meant the world to Ally and Julie-Anne. He will be forever loved and missed.

After facing significant costs for Brendan’s treatment over numerous years, the Sheehans are now also burdened with funding funeral expenses. Brendan and Julie-Anne had to use their Super (retirement savings), for all the necessary medical options that gave him a few extra years.

We are hoping we can all play a small part in supporting Julie-Anne and the family in this tough time, by donating any amount to help cover these extensive costs. We know his impact and legacy is one that is wide – and that there are many, many more people who deserve to attend his send off. This is one small way we can show our thanks and love for the man who helped so many, and will be forever missed.
