Help to improve my brother's life

On the 1st of June of 2020 my brother's life (23 yo at that moment) had a dramatic change. He had an accident in which he broke his neck and became quadriplegic. After that day everything has been an obstacle course: an initial emergency surgery in the neck, adapting to the new highly reduced mobility, going after another surgery in the spine... All of this within the pandemic situation that makes everything even more difficult.
But let me tell you a bit of Guille! My brother is the happiest person that I know (and I'm not the only one that thinks so!). He always has a huge smile and caring words ready for anyone who wants them, even if he's the one that needs it the most. His energy doesn't have limits: during a single day he used to craft some pretty rings, paint in every piece of paper he found, go biking everywhere in the city, cook amazing and delicious dishes...all of it while studying, working and having a social life (and he always found a moment to annoy his little sister).
Now, after the accident, he lost his mobility from his chest downwards and also his hands and triceps were affected. This means that he won’t be able to walk again but also that he can't move his fingers so all the hand function he has comes from the wrist. This new situation has changed my brother's lifestyle completely. He has to adapt every single aspect of his life and even he has to give up on some of his most precious activities that used to define him.
It hasn't been easy for any of us to face this challenge; it is extremely hard to realize that something that you never expect to happen to you or your loved ones, actually occurred. But, as my family and I are discovering, the challenge doesn’t finish here: being quadriplegic requires a crazy amount of money. Just a hand bike special for a quadriplegic costs around 8000€. We have to add every single (and incredibly expensive) detail that is required in this new life: catheters, an electric adjustable bed, home adaptations, a wheelchair for the bathroom, special gloves to ride the wheelchair, an adapted car… Taking everything into account, we would need an amount of 10000€ just to start adapting his daily life to his disability.
My brother is one of the most important people in my life and it is really difficult to see him in these circumstances. That’s why I thought about creating this fundraiser so I can improve a bit the situation by providing some of the many things that he will need. Any contribution is more than welcome so if you’re thinking about participating, go for it! And if you can’t participate, you can always share our story; we really much appreciate the help.

El 1 de junio de 2020 la vida de mi hermano (23 años en aquel momento) cambió dramáticamente. Tuvo un accidente en el que se rompió el cuello y quedó tetrapléjico. Tras ese día todo ha sido una carrera de obstáculos: una operación de emergencia en el cuello, adaptarse a una nueva y gran reducida movilidad, pasar por una segunda operación de columna…Todo esto en la situación de pandemia que dificulta las cosas incluso más.
¡Pero dejadme que os cuente un poco sobre Guille! Mi hermano es la persona más alegre que conozco (y no soy la única que lo piensa!). Siempre tiene una gran sonrisa y los mejores ánimos preparados para quien lo necesite, incluso cuando es a él a quien mejor le vendrían. Su energía no tiene límites: en un solo día solía fabricar anillos preciosos, pintar en cualquier trozo de papel que encontraba, ir en bici a todos los lados de la ciudad, cocinar platos deliciosos… mientras estudiaba, trabajaba y tenía vida social (y siempre encontraba un rato para molestar a su hermana pequeña).
Ahora, tras el accidente, ha perdido la movilidad del pecho para abajo, y también sus manos y tríceps han sido afectados. Esto quiere decir que no solo no podrá caminar de nuevo, sino que tampoco puede mover sus dedos, así que toda la función manual que tiene viene de la muñeca. Esta nueva situación ha cambiado el estilo de vida de mi hermano completamente. Tiene que adaptar todos y cada uno de los aspectos de su vida e incluso tiene que renunciar algunas de las actividades más preciadas que solían definirle.
No ha sido fácil para ninguno de nosotros afrontar este desafío; es extremadamente duro aceptar que algo que nunca pensabas que te pasaría a ti o a tus seres queridos haya sucedido de verdad. Pero, como estamos descubriendo mi familia y yo, las dificultades no acaban aquí: ser tetrapléjico requiere una cantidad enorme de dinero. Solo una bici de manos especial para un tetrapléjico cuesta alrededor de 8000€. Hay que añadir cada pequeño (e increíblemente caro) detalle que su nueva vida requiere: catéteres, una cama articulada eléctrica, adaptar la vivienda, silla de ruedas para ir al baño, guantes especiales para ir en la silla de ruedas, un coche adaptado… Teniendo todo en cuenta, necesitaríamos una cantidad de 10000€ solo para empezar a adaptar su nueva vida a su discapacidad.
Mi hermano es una de las personas más importantes de mi vida y se hace muy difícil verle en estas circunstancias. Por eso quería crear esta campaña, para poder mejorar un poquito su situación proveyendo algunas de las mil cosas que necesitará. Cualquier aportación es más que bienvenida, así que, si quieres participar, ¡no lo dudes! Y si no puedes participar, siempre puedes compartir, valoramos muchísimo la ayuda.
