My name is Michael Bermeo and I am making this on behalf of my father Lio. My beloved father who suffered two strokes on the left side of his brain on 1/13/22 has been left with various physical ailments, cognitive deficits, and speech difficulties. Due to the size and nature of the stroke, he has a lot of swelling in his brain which is affecting his consciousness and neurological status, therefore, making it difficult for him to participate in any of the therapies that he desperately needs. We have turned the corner on the most life-threatening time but we now face a very long and arduous road to recovery.
My father is the hardest working and most selfless man I know. Everything he does, he does for the well-being of our family and never thought twice about himself. My father is a truck driver who works long hard days that are taxing on his body. Due to the fact that he is the sole income source of my family; we are facing deep financial issues that come along with managing his recovery. The nature of my dad's self-employment did not allow for accessible health insurance, therefore he is uninsured and now unable to work for an unknown amount of time. The medical bills have already begun piling up and now we are faced with how we are going to afford to keep him in a rehabilitation center until he is strong enough to come home.
There is no good time for medical devastation but this has come at a very difficult time. Prior to his stroke, my dad was teaching my twin sisters how to drive, their graduation is approaching and college acceptances are coming in. This was already going to be a financially difficult time but now with our new reality; we face extreme financial hardship.
In the blink of an eye, my strong, lively, and active father is now facing an extremely long and challenging road to recovery. We are very hopeful for a good return of function but there is still so much unknown and uncertainty due to the many complications he faced after the stroke. I know my dad will be worried about the finances and future of our family and these donations could put his mind at ease.
This Go Fund Me will be used to fund his recovery as well as take care of our family’s financial needs. If you are able to help in any way, we would be eternally grateful. My father would be so resistant to us asking for help but I think he'd rather us ask for help now before it's too late for our family. We are putting ourselves out here only because we have no other option to cover these huge medical bills and keep our family afloat. Any contribution big or small is greatly appreciated during this rough time. Please keep my father and our family in your prayers.
