Mitch Brown is a 5th grade teacher at Manor Elementary School in Fairfax. Mitch is quiet and impactful. In the classroom he reaches every kid, in an academic way but more so in a life learning way. In a natural, day to day way, he teaches kids about choices and consequences. He leads by example. He respects all the kids and conversely they respect him. He’s one of those types of teachers - he’s the one kids will always remember.
Seven years ago he found out that he was born with a faulty aortic valve, which was failing and causing an aneurysm in his aorta. A replacement valve was put in via open heart surgery. He recently found out his valve is failing again and goes in for surgery on December 8 at UCSF. The surgery is expected to be costly and he will be on disability for quite some time.
