My mother and I helped my grandmother leave this world over the past days. Through a series of incredibly unfortunate moves by Sarasota Memorial Hospital, she landed in hospice just 2 weeks after walking in a healthy woman, mentally sound, physically able - for a routine CT scan.

Being 101 years of age and having had a beautiful life- including outliving most everyone she knew- we stayed full of love, and were able to hold both her hands as she made her transition. She left last night on 10.14.25 @ 10:53pm

The next steps are going to be a doozy for my mom.

In her late years of retirement, my grandmother went bankrupt and refinanced her condo keeping her youngest daughter, my Aunt, taken care of while battling and dying of cancer a few years back. Another disillusionment and terrible state of our medical care system. Now my mom, having cared for her mom for years, has less than enough to cover even one month’s expenses left to her.

We will need to clear out their shared home of the last 25+ years as fast as possible to get it on the market, and find some place to live while selling it as she has no other living family members besides myself. I will be doing everything I can to help, of course, but cannot support two households while taking time off of work to do the physical part of all of this too.

I now sit here, humbly, and ask for help. Any amount. Or just a share of this fundraiser. The money will be used to keep a roof over her head and pay monthly bills while clearing and selling their home, and to help her into the next place she can call home (most likely out of Sarasota as cost of living has gotten so high) while figuring out how to re enter the/a workplace as well.
