Team Legs Miserable - Three Peaks Challenge

Hi, my name is Angela and I am fundraising with my amazing colleagues to raise money to support the well-being of our teams in the Emergency Department/UTC and Acute Medicine. 

The story behind this is I recently had an attempted break in at my home which triggered a trauma I suffered as a teenager. 

Unfortunately I walked into my family home where I was met by a burglar running at me with a knife. My first instinct was to get out of his way as I thought he would leave my house. He didn’t….he ran at me and held me with a knife to my throat for a few hours whilst he was ransacking my house. He left me bound and gagged to my bed when he was eventually disturbed by a neighbour and fled. 

Back in those days there was limited support and the advice was not to move home and just get on with it. I found my own coping mechanisms which got me through the years even though it was always there somewhere. 

The recent attempted burglary opened up all these survival modes I developed in protecting my family and home and feeling like I needed to be continuously on guard preparing for the inevitable. 

This becomes extremely tiring and eventually confided in my Line Manager due to the exhaustion I felt. I was immediately put in contact with the Here for You Team at HPFT who have supported me ever since. 

The reason I wanted to do this challenge is to recognise what our teams have been through during the pandemic along with peoples own personal battles and struggles that we may be unaware of. 

I then (some might say) tricked my amazing colleagues past and present into joining me. 

We have a fabulous team in Faye, Ben, George, Beth, James, Sunny and Egbert who all have their own reasons to do this challenge. 

We will be doing the challenge over a 24hr period in September 2022 (slightly less time if I am airlifted off!!) 

The challenge will be funded through this fundraising and remaining monies going to support our teams through East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals Charity - registered charity (number 1053338). 

We will be asking our teams suggestions for what the money will be used for. Your support for us to achieve this is very much appreciated as this is not going to be easy (definitely not for me).
