Help students go to Camp Phoenix

Fir Ridge is an alternative high school in the David Douglas School District loacted in Portland, OR.  Many of our students are academically behind and/or at-risk of dropping out.  Almost all have extremely difficult life circumstances. We have 214 students; Grades 9-12; 77% are on Free and Reduced Lunch; 10% are pregnant or parenting teens, 12% are Title X (homeless), and 20% are enrolled in special education.

We are asking for $2000.00 to cover the cost of sending 26 high school students to Camp Phoenix, a three day intensive and transformational retreat. The money will be used to cover the costs of programming, food, lodging, supplies and transportation.

At Camp Phoenix teens evaluate who they are, assess the causes of their challenges, and redefine where they want to go in life. To support these objectives, students will engage in experiential activities including small group discussions, energizing games/initiatives, storytelling, creation of an art collage, and the opportunity to reflect on their past while setting goals for their future. The participants will also spend an afternoon on the challenge course to learn how to work as a team and develop trust within themselves and the group.

Our students have incredible stories of grit, resilience, and perserverance and we feel confident that participation in Camp Phoenix will have a lasting and meaningful impact on their lives.  Thanks for your support!
