Juan's road to recovery

Hola, mi nombre es Stella, la mamá de Juan. Les agradezco por tomar su tiempo para leer nuestra historia.

Mi hijo Juan es un niño de 13 años que es cariñoso, inteligente, y que ama la vida y todos los que lo rodean. El 18 de junio de 2024, Juan comenzó con un dolor de cuello y dificultad para hablar. Lo llevé a su pediatra y ella estaba preocupada por su habla y me aconsejó que lo llevara directamente al hospital para que le hicieran una resonancia magnética. Lo llevé rápidamente al hospital y, después de múltiples traslados hospitalarios, tomografías computarizadas y resonancias magnéticas, recibió el diagnóstico de una forma rara y agresiva de cáncer en los huesos. Un tumor que se llama cordoma clival que está ubicado entre la médula espinal y el tronco del encéfalo. Juan ha sido sometido a tres cirugías cerebrales para extirpar el tumor, y gracias a Dios y a su maravilloso equipo de médicos, se ha extirpado el 98% del tumor sin afectar su habla ni su vista. Después de casi tres largos meses de estar en el Holtz Children's Hospital en Miami, ahora está de regreso en casa y se recupera positivamente. Toda la gloria sea para Dios, que veremos días mejores por delante. Actualmente estamos en la espera de que inicie la Terapia de Protones (radiación) para eliminar el 2% que no pudieron eliminar con las cirugías.

A lo largo de esta temporada, mi hijo ha demostrado fuerza, resiliencia y positivismo. Sé que Dios tiene un propósito especial para mi hijo. Es su fuerza y energía positiva lo que me ha ayudado a no derrumbarme por completo.

Debido a esta situación imprevista, mi esposo no ha podido trabajar para atender las necesidades de nuestro Juan y hemos agotado todos nuestros ahorros de emergencia. Cada obsequio donado será recibido con la más sincera gratitud y aprecio de nuestra familia. Sabemos que el camino hacia la recuperación será largo, pero sé que Dios seguirá estando con él en todo momento.

Hello, my name is Stella, Juan's mother. I truly appreciate you all for taking the time to read our story.

My son Juan is a loving, smart, enthusiastic 13-year-old boy who has a love for life and all those that surround him. On June 18th, 2024, Juan began experiencing neck pain and slurred speech. I took him to his pediatrician, and she was worried about his speech and advised that I take him straight to the hospital. I rushed him to the hospital, and after multiple hospital transfers, CT scans, and MRIs, he received a diagnosis of having a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer, a Clival Chordoma tumor located between his spinal cord and brain stem. Juan has undergone three brain surgeries to remove the mass, and thank God and his wonderful team of doctors, 98% of the tumor has been removed without affecting his speech or sight. After almost three long months of being in Holtz Children's Hospital in Miami, he is now back home making a positive recovery. All glory be to God, that we will be seeing better days ahead. We are currently awaiting for him to begin Proton Therapy (radiation) to remove the 2% they were unable to remove by the surgeries.

Through this season, my son has shown nothing but strength, resilience, and positivity. I know God has a special purpose for my son. It is his strength and positive energy that has helped me from completely breaking down.

Due to this unforeseen situation, my husband has not been able to work in order to tend to our Juan's needs, and we have exhausted all of our emergency savings. Every gift that is donated will be met with our family's sincerest gratitude and appreciation. We know the road to recovery will be long, but I know God will continue to be with him at all moments.
