Help me attend my dream school

Donation protected
Thank you for looking at my claim.
I am a Black/Jewish/Lesbian student who needs only a little bit more assistance to attend the school of my dreams without such severe anxiety. Racism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism have yet to stop me. I  truly am almost at my goal. I have very little support from my mother who unfortunately suffers from alcoholism as well as a stroke that affects her ability to care and love me appropriately. However, I am still determined and thoroughly motivated to go to school and finish my studies. I am going to be a social worker and hopefully help prevent family tragedies caused from substance abuse. My school has put me through so much just to secure reasonable aid for the semester. I had to provide psychologist notes, past teacher and counselor notes just to prove I am not safe living with my mother, dating back to high school. When I was 18 I was able to escape. Exhausting personal statements I've had to supply and financial aid staff trying to get me to shred all of the documentation I provided because they thought I wouldn't have a chance at appealing my dependency status and they prefer to give out as little money as possible. They would have no choice but to help if this process was approved. They were all wrong and did everything they could to encourage me to end the process. I would have no chance at school if it wasn't for me being persistent through this process. I can't believe a schools staff would try to discourage my attendance based on my financial need. Not to mention the school has an endowment of over 450 million. In my statement I wrote SPECIFIC and disturbing details of my abuse which opend new wounds I have yet to recover from. I refuse to waste this opportunity. These overrides are only granted for the most extreme cases. Which I unfortunately fall under, thus being approved. Despite everything I am still thankful for the opportunity to attend this wonderful University. Any contribution can help make my dreams to help others possible. Children should not have to go through the abuses I have dealt with and continue to experience. Children struggling within thr LGBT community, the rising mental epidemic, and various degrees of institutional racism need more attention and care. I don't live with my mother and I sustain myself because of the abuse. I don't think I could ever go back because of the trauma. I still will never complain because that will only inhibit my success and path to improve the lives of others. I am still a very happy and optimistic person despite all adversity. So giving up on this means not giving up on them.

My donations are all going straight to tuition for the next two semesters. Half for this one and the following fall semester.

Very Warmly,
Alexis
