Help Liz Get Back On Her Feet
Hello, my name is Elizabeth “Liz” Moorhead, and I am fundraising to get back on my financial feet after a decade of tragedy and financial insecurity.
I lost my mother, Terry Roseberry, in January of 2011 and was left single-handedly to cover her funeral expenses, which was the beginning of my financial downturn.
I lost my father, Jim Moorhead, to cancer in August of 2015 and my life has not been the same ever since. My Dad was my rock and provided help both emotionally and financially whenever I was in need for the majority of my adult life. While I appreciate his help and wisdom, what we both didn’t realize is that he was training me to be financially-dependent and, honestly, blatantly irresponsible with my own money as a result. Once again, I was left to cover his funeral expenses by myself, adding even more financial burden on top of the grief I was already experiencing.
In addition, sadly I lost both of my older brothers to suicide in my early twenties, and my third brother has been non-communicative since our father’s passing. In regard to family, I am mostly on my own nowadays. At one of my lowest points in 2019, I attempted to take my own life as an escape from the pressure of day-to-day life and financial burden. Luckily, I am still here, and am more determined than ever to make things right.
The main bright light in my life now is my daughter, Caitlin. Born on October 27th, 1991 (and pictured above on the left), she is the best thing that has ever happened to me! Her father is out of the picture and currently living on the streets of Florida. Unfortunately, she has been burdened both emotionally and financially with my unresolved habits from my upbringing, and its time to put this cycle to an end once and for all.
Last month (June 2021), due to finances, I was forced to move in with Caitlin and her boyfriend, Dave, in order to make ends meet. They have both been very generous to offer their spare bedroom while I work on getting my life and finances back together. Dave has been helping me assess my financial situation, and working on improving my credit score so I can ultimately lease a place of my own and have financial independence again.
Due to my lower credit score from past mistakes, I have fallen trap to a predatory loan that I am in the process of paying back. Once this loan is behind me, I will have a much more solid foundation to help rebuild my credit score and finances. I am currently employed full-time as a Visiting Angel in Lake County, Ohio, where I tend to the needs of the elderly and disabled as a caretaker. The job is very fulfilling, however, the pay is not adequate to meet the needs of making my loan payments AND also getting ahead with my day-to-day finances. This GoFundMe campaign is an attempt to try and break this vicious cycle of high-interest rates, auto-deductions, and payroll advances that I am currently stuck in.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read my story. With your help, I will be back on the road to financial independence and cannot thank you enough! -Lizzy
