In June, Kathy suffered a devastating fall that crushed her spinal cord. She had to be life-flighted from Humboldt County to Santa Rosa for emergency surgery - a terrifying and life-altering moment for someone who has spent a lifetime caring for others.

After surgery, Kathy entered a live-in spinal rehabilitation facility for nearly a month. Thanks to her incredible strength and spirit, she has regained some feeling, but she now faces the long and uncertain journey of relearning how to use her arms and legs. We still don't know the extent of the permanent damage.

Now home under the care of dedicated caregivers, Kathy needs extensive support. The costs of the life flight, surgery, in-patient rehab, and ongoing caregiving have placed a heavy financial burden on her and her family. That's why we are reaching out to the community Kathy has touched for decades as a devoted employee in the special education community, a dedicated member of the Sheriff's Department, a caring neighbor, and a loyal friend.

Kathy has always shown up for others in times of need. Now it's our turn to show up for her.
