Jada’s Story
From the time Jada was little, she dreamed of becoming a college student and being the first in her family to graduate from college. That dream was never just wishful thinking—Jada did everything she could to set her own way out and create a future built on education, purpose, and service.
In 2025, Jada graduated from Bard High School Early College in Washington, D.C., earning not only her high school diploma but also an associate’s degree—a remarkable achievement that reflected her drive and discipline. Without hesitation, she immediately set foot forward and enrolled at Delaware State University, where she is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in psychology/psychiatry, determined to help others through mental health advocacy and care.
Jada has never expected things to be easy. She understands sacrifice. Last year, when I experienced serious financial difficulties as her mother—and as a single mom of four—I was unable to help cover her university expenses the way I wanted to. Instead of giving up, Jada stepped up. She worked tirelessly and managed to come up with $4,000 on her own to stay enrolled. She also earned a scholarship as a Resident Assistant, working full time for the university, and she does hair on the side to help support herself and remain in school.
Despite all of her efforts, this year has become even harder.
Right now, Jada needs $5,500 to remain enrolled this semester. On top of that, the school is not providing her with meal support, leaving her to struggle just to eat day to day. She takes on odd jobs around campus whenever she can, simply to make sure she has enough for basic necessities. I send money when I’m able, but with three younger children at home, my resources are stretched thin.
What makes this even harder is that Jada doesn’t complain. She didn’t even want me to create this GoFundMe. She carries this weight quietly and keeps pushing forward, because giving up has never been an option in her mind. She has applied for scholarships, but as many families know, they don’t always come through when you need them most.
We are now at a critical point. Without help, Jada risks being removed from school—not because she lacks effort or dedication, but because of financial barriers beyond her control.
We are humbly asking: if anyone can help in any way, please know that every dollar matters. No amount is too small. Your support would help keep Jada enrolled, fed, and focused on completing the education she has worked her entire life for.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting a young woman who is fighting with everything she has to build a better future.
With love and gratitude,
Jada’s mom,
Heather
