Fight for my life
My name is Omar Garcia. I am 32 years-old and unfortunately, I am very sick and desperate for help. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus at age 9. I spent my whole life in and out of the hospital. Doctors diagnosed me with all different diagnoses, such as asthma, hyperthyroidism and high blood pressure, just to name a few. I am still alive today thanks to the love and care of my grandmother. I lost my parents when I was two years-old. I've lived sick my whole life, but things turned for the worse after my appendix burst and I was hospitalized for over a week. This was only the beginning of a more serious problem that manifested while in the hospital. My blood sugars were uncontrollable, which caused loss of vision due to bleeding roots in the back of my eyes.
As a result of all of this, I have been unable to work; therefore, I have no income, other than my disability check, which funds are used to travel back and forth to the hospital. To make matters worse, I got a serious infection in my foot, which led to two toes being amputated. I can no longer stand for prolonged periods of time. Neuropathy also affects my thighs and legs, as I suffer from Arthritis in the hands and fingers, making work impossible for me.
On June 23, 2015, I was informed that I had to start dialysis because my kidneys were failing. This caused my pancreas to start failing, as well. Staying positive, I was put on two waiting lists and thought I would have an opportunity to get new organs. However, I was removed from the list due to heart failure, which means my heart is only functioning at 20%. I've had two heart attacks since then. I go to dialysis Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I spend the other days recuperating from the pain of dialysis. To sum this all up the cost of travel and the medicine has got me stuck. I can't afford it what it has come to.
To think... I might not be able to afford what I need to live!
I need to fight for my life. Please help me fight to live.
If you can find in your heart to help I would greatly appreciate it.
