Direct Aid for Ukrainians

Привіт! Hello! I am Ada, a mother of three, a nursing school student, and a 2nd generation Ukrainian-American living in Southern Oregon.

I want to ask you to join me in helping Ukrainians fight for their freedom.

But first, please let me tell you why this is so personal to me.

I come from a long line of Ukrainian freedom fighters from Lviv, Ukraine. My mother and her parents left Lviv in 1945: WWII had just ended and the Soviet Union was taking over Western Ukraine. Some of my family stayed to fight for Ukrainian independence and were either killed or imprisoned in Siberia. The rest of my family fled Ukraine and landed in a refugee (“displaced persons”) camp, where the kindness of local people kept children like my mother from succumbing to disease and malnutrition.

By the mid-1950s, my family had been scattered across Ukrainian diaspora communities in Australia, Western Europe, and the United States. They settled into their new communities, adjusting, living with the trauma of war while keeping the Ukrainian culture alive. They sang Ukrainian lullabies to their children, celebrating their culture through language, music, food, and art.

Always, the longing for the homeland was deeply intertwined with the remembered fear of Russian oppression, persecution and starvation. Since 2014 and especially since the 24th of February, 2022, those fears have been coming true.

The world has responded to Russia’s unprovoked, unlawful war of genocide with incredible support for Ukrainians. Still, in many areas of Ukraine, supplies and funds are simply not arriving.

I am starting this campaign to support three grassroots organizations: forPEACE, KHARPP, and Ukrainian Foundation. These are the folks who know best what Ukrainians need. Through their Ukrainian supply chains, they are able to deliver supplies to the frontlines in Eastern and Southern Ukraine, to hospitals in Kharkiv and Kryvih Rih, and to Ukrainian refugees arriving in Poland.

This summer, I will fly to Kraków, Poland, to deliver as many humanitarian and medical supplies as possible. From there, volunteers will transport these supplies directly to where they are needed by Ukrainians.

Here is a list of supplies/services you can help provide:

• $20 will purchase a powerbank to keep a refugee’s phone working abroad, and $50 will purchase them a large suitcase for their belongings.
• $25 will purchase a small first aid kit.
• $500 will purchase enough medical supplies for 10 patients.
• $800 will pay for fuel to transport supplies between Lviv and Kharkiv.

Thank you so much for your support. Слава Україні!
