On February 13th Monica Stephenson had an emergency surgery to remove what Dr's thought was a cyst that burst in her abdomen. The Dr's also had to remove her right ovary while they preformed the surgery. A week later her biopsy results came back stating that it was actually a tumor that ruptured and that the cancer could spread due to that. She was referred to a specialist and off to Stanford she headed.
Monica was diagnosed with Granulosa ovarian cancer which Dr's have said is a rare form. She had to have a second surgery to undergo a full hysterectomy and confirm that the previous Dr was able to collect all of the ruptured tumor and for her new Dr to explore around to see if the cancer spread. Her surgery was 5 hours long and the Dr's were able to get a good look.
Two weeks later she had a follow up appointment with her Dr and the news we got was not expected. Her Dr spotted cancer colonies randomly on the outside of her uterus and outside of her stomach lining. Her Dr removed what she could find but to be safe the Dr is going to start Monica on a 6 month chemotherapy plan. Monica is now diagnosed with stage 3 cancer and having to undergo chemo every 3 weeks at Stanford Medical Center.
For those of you who know Monica already know what a giving person she is. She has been employed by KD Capital Mortgage for 6 years and has been in the mortgage industry for 23 years. She participates in giving to the community by donating gifts to those in need during Christmas, she is involved in Up With Kids and also helps with the homeless in Paso Robles. She is always striving to lend help when others are in need and to leave people better then when she met them.
Monicas spirit has remained faithful in her recovery all while keeping a strong, positive mindset. She has openly shared her experience to raise the awareness of cancer and how important it is to listen to our bodies. Monica truly is inspiring to others even through this unfortunate time I'm her life.
When we we say that anything helps, we greatly mean anything. All donations will be used to supplement where insurance lacks. With the shocking diagnosis we are trying to ease as much stress as possible. The burden of the finances is invevitable but we aim to keep her strong by focusing on what's important, her health and healing. We ask that if unable to donate, please keep Monica in your thoughts and prayers!
We we want to thank everyone for the encouraging words, positive thoughts and continued prayers. We are blessed to be graced by everyone's support, it helps fuel her fight against cancer .
