Bring Edwin Home
Donation protected
This isn’t the easiest for me to share, but I was encouraged by friends and family to share our story with our community amidst the most difficult time of our lives.
On Tuesday, April 8th, Edwin and I were traveling home to the U.S. after a wonderful week-long visit with his family in Colombia. It was the first time I had met his family in person, and we had such a great time exploring his hometown and being with his family and friends. As we were traveling back into the U.S., we stopped at the immigration checkpoint, which was expected, and we weren’t worried as Edwin had all the proper documentation to enter back into the country. However, much to our devastation, Edwin never made it through the immigration checkpoint and is currently being detained in ICE custody. The darkest moment of my life was having to say goodbye and walk away from my husband, not knowing when I would see him again or what was even going to happen.
Since returning home, I have begun working with an immigration attorney to get Edwin home as soon as possible. We are unsure what the future looks like for us, but Edwin and I have decided together to do our best to continue to walk out the plans we had made prior to all this happening. Part of those plans was to close on a house on April 17th in Indiana, which we have decided to continue to go forth with. There is a lot going on amidst all this, but we are trusting that God is going to use this in big ways for our story and His glory.
Because of all that is going on, we are in need of financial help. Any funds that are raised would help to cover missed income for both Edwin and myself, moving expenses, flights, hotels, and transportation to hopefully visit Edwin, commissary expenses for Edwin, and any other unexpected expenses that may arise. Praise God, our attorney fees thus far have been covered, but it could be possible to have additional fees along the way.
So many of you know Edwin personally, and it didn’t take long in meeting him to see his kindness and love for everyone. I miss his steady and calm presence in our home. He is my best friend and the person I want to experience every milestone of life with. To be closing on our first home together without him is quite crushing, but I know I am going to work hard to make it ready to welcome him home.
We appreciate and are so thankful for any and each of the donations made. Some of you may not be able to give financially, and that’s okay, too. We would gladly accept all the prayers, as we know it is only by the Lord that we are going to make it through this to be together again soon.
