Surgery For Anna
Donation protected
Hi all!
This is not typically my sort of thing, but something has come up of a dire nature. Unbeknownst to my sweet wife Anna, she had been developing a spinal condition over the years called Degenerative Disk Disease. This allowed the disks in her lower back to slip out of place and put pressure on her spine. this has led to Spinal Stenosis (narrowing of the spine). They have also found a cyst along side her spine in the same area that is putting pressure on a bundle of nerves.
One night a few weeks ago she moved funny and something drastic happened with that combination of issues. I was in the living room studying and Jaxon (our 6 year old) ran into the living room and said "dad - come help mom - she can't get up" Im not sure if it was her disk pushing out further of a problem with the cyst, but she had bent down to pick something up and said it felt like something exploded in her back. Im not sure if it was the level of pain at that point or a Vagal response but she was nearly unconscious. I had to pick her up and gently get her back into the bed. she couldnt get up till the next day. I almost insisted that she be flown off, but she wanted to wait till morning. We had no idea there was a problem until that night.
She has not been the same since. She had just started working at the school and has been unable to do much of anything since. They did one round of an injection of steroids and inflammatories surgically into her spinal region. It helped for a day and then degraded back into constant pain. The situation is so dire that the surgeon got her scheduled within two weeks.
Problem being that they need just over $2000 that day to pay for the surgeons time. Then Island Hospital will start billing for the rest. It is estimated to be over $7000 all said and done not to mention ferry fare and hotel stay for during the surgery as she will have to stay the night. I will have about a week of sick time accused so I will be able to take a few days off without going broke, but we are already very tightly budgeted. We can't handle this hit that soon and the only option is to wait until we can save the money. I can't stand the thought of my Anna being in that much pain for longer than absolutely possible. I am open to any other ideas or suggestions, but the bottom line is we need to ask for some help with at least part of that money by Monday March 25th. I don't know what else to do. Her surgery is scheduled and come hell or high water I want her to be able to start healing. Anything you can share with her is so appreciated that I can't express my gratitude properly. Thank you.
