There are perhaps no two people we know who have lived their vows so loyally and with so much love as our parents, Joe and Donna Scully.
Since our father was paralyzed 34 years ago, mom has been his sole caregiver. She has gotten him up each morning and put him to bed each night, not just out of a sense of duty but because she loves him tremendously.
There has never been any doubt to anyone who knows them that these two are soulmates. And there has never been any doubt that our mom is perhaps the strongest person on the planet.
But even superheroes hit tough times. And we need your help.
Donna was diagnosed with colon cancer and is having extensive surgery next week to remove a very large tumor. The prognosis and plan of care is unclear until the surgeons do their work. But what is clear is that she won’t be able to lift Joe or do his care for at least eight weeks, and quite possibly more.
Private-duty nursing is not covered by Medicare and these unexpected expenses will be mostly - if not completely - out of pocket. We are asking for assistance in paying these bills. It’s never an easy thing to do. But our priority is to ensure mom gets the time she needs to heal and dad gets the care he needs.
Thank you all for your continued love and support through this and other ups and downs in our lives. It means so much to all of us.
