Help Alek on His Road to Healing and Restoration
Donation protected
On June 25th, 2024, Alek Wormuth was finishing a 10-mile run with two of his good friends, Owen Hoeft and Matt Wilkinson, when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest that put Alek into a coma and caused anoxic brain injury.
Alek spent 5 days in the ICU, 4 of which were spent unconscious on a ventilator, and is now emerging from this traumatic event through acute inpatient rehab at the Knapp Rehabilitation Center in Minneapolis. Recovering from an anoxic brain injury presents Alek with incomprehensible challenges, and the journey to reclaim his life is just beginning.
A top 1% finisher of the 2024 Boston Marathon, 2023 U of MN graduate and president of the MN Run Club, avid car enthusiast, and friend to anyone who knows him, Alek is a 23-year old young man with unwavering spirit. He refuses to let anything keep him down, not even the daunting task of regaining the joy of life he lived prior to June 25th.
After only 12 days at inpatient rehab, Alek prepares for outpatient rehabilitation, presenting a precarious phase of insurance coverage limits and uncertain employment. With his family and friends rallying behind him, this GoFundMe campaign has been created to provide continued and essential support to Alek. Together, we can ensure Alek gets the care he needs to continue his journey toward healing and restoration.
