Jonathan’s Accident

Donation protected
Saturday, September 3rd, at 2pm, Jon and I walked from our hotel in Downtown Atlanta to attend DragonCon. We were walking by a club/restaurant located directly across from the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Atlanta. We passed a 6 1/2-7 foot tall, wooden, make-shift “sign” with nails sticking out of it that the club had an advertisement nailed to; As we walked passed a gust of wind blew the sign over on Jonathan and I. It immediately stunned him and he froze. I could barely hold the sign off of us and couldn’t push it away. It took 3 adults to move the sign off of and away from Jon. There was a VERY LOUD crack when the sign hit his head and blood starting pouring down and splattered all over the ground and us. I got him seated. He wasn’t aware of what happened and became less and less coherent. There are multiple witnesses and the manager was informed. Jon was taken by ambulance to Grady Trauma. He went back to the ER on September 6, due to worsening concussion symptoms.
 - Jon has a grade 3 concussion with documented loss of consciousness
 - Has about a 3 inch gash with a puncture wound, that has 12 staples total
 - He is still suffering from confusion, memory loss, inability to do tasks he was able to before, PTSD episodes triggered due to event
 - Severe headaches
 - He is still having some dizzy spells
- His back and neck are hurting immensely
- There is still numbness and tingling through his arms and legs
- He is still dealing with nausea
 - He is still having to have limited screen time and limited physical activity (no gym yet)
- His vision and hearing are still very sensitive and he wears sun glasses inside and out most of the time now Jon has been attending DragonCon for more than 20 years and this is one of the worst things to have happened to him due to carelessness of a business. Jon is having difficulties working and will be having to take a longer break from his day to day life than we’d hoped. We are having to pay out of pocket for prescriptions and medical for him right now until appointments are set up which will hopefully be soon. Jon is a father and provider for our family and right now I am the only one able to work. My mother cannot work and is on disability due to having three strokes. This whole situation has been difficult emotionally, physically, and financially.
If you can help our family during this difficult time, it would be greatly appreciated. We are doing our best to get to everyone’s messages as we are able. Thank you for your love, prayers, and best wishes. They mean so much to us.
