Wyoming Art Residency Support
Donation protected
I'm a Bay Area artist and have been working on my career for more than a decade and am presently navigating how to fund the next couple months as I embark on an artist residency program in Wyoming.
Here's a bit about my background: I was born in Oakland and grew up in Northern California. I went to UC Davis for a BA in studio art and Italian, then attended the University of Connecticut for a MFA in printmaking and MA in Italian literature. Both of my parents are also artists: my mom paints and organizes exhibitions and my dad is a blues muscian who has played with well-known artists such as Van Morrison, John Lee Hooker, and Elvin Bishop. My brother, who died at age 21 in 2006, was also an artist, making paintings and participating in theatrical productions. For a number of years I worked in the non-profit art world, curating exhibtions, writing contracts, and managing general behind-the-scenes matters. Though I have always had some job, I have always been active with my art career with more than fifty exhibitions since 2000. Last year I was in seven exhibits, the major highlight being selected for a group show in Miami during the week of Art Basel.
What's happening now: For the past eight months I have been without any real income, jumping around for a few odd jobs such as painting a house in Oakland and now installing some exhibitions in San Jose. With no steady job in sight, I am still excited about focusing on my art. It has been a challenge and I am learning how to keep afloat. I have not done a residency since 2009 and I feel that now is the time to give myself the chance and space to concentrate on my artwork.
Donations to this campaign will help offset the following expected costs: canvas and stretcher bars ($400), gesso ($50), paint ($500), brushes ($100), palette knives ($100), drawing supplies ($100), paper and sketchbook material ($100), tape ($150), and round trip travel ($500).
Time period for using funds: February 10–March 16. Basically the first day I head out for Wyoming and the last day I return back home.
The impact you can have: I will be eternally grateful for your support. Being an artist nowadays is incredibly challenging, whether finding energy to make art or balancing a job that provides finances and time to still allow for creativity. To have the proper time and space to experience the residency will be a life changing chapter of my life.
Thank you in advance for a donation of any amount.
Sincerely,
Anthony Pinata
