Alyssa’s New Heart
Donation protected
In July of 2023 Alyssa started to have some chest pain and shortness of breath. She was hospitalized and was diagnosed with heart failure. Her heart was only working at 22% and so this journey began. One of the most difficult parts of this was that she was essentially "grounded" from flying as a flight paramedic, a job she has a passion for.
As the month went on she was on a lot of medication that was suppose to help the heart, however it was making her weak, tired and dropped her blood pressures to dangerous levels.
After 4 month on the medication she had to be hospitalized once again and she was take off the medication. After some testing it was determined that the medication did not work as there was no change in her heart function. Alyssa went through an evaluation process for transplant and during that evaluation she once again had to be hospitalized. Once again test were done and her heart was getting worse. We are now hoping to be placed on the heart transplant list.
This whole thing has been a long journey and it will be a long journey ahead. We know that God is with us in all this and placed us in the right place for her care. The Heart Failure and Transplant team at Wake Forest has been amazing and she knows she is in great hands.
We have started this fundraiser to help with the out of pocket medical expenses we have and will continue to have as this is a very expensive process.
We are thankful and blessed for all the support everyone has shown.
