Kuts for C∆nfidence 2015

Everyone has a cancer story. You have heard about someone who lost their mom way too early in life. You have heard about parents who had to hold their child one last time before cancer took him away forever. Maybe you have seen your best friend refuse to give up her spirit to cancer, even if that meant it took her life. As sisters in Kappa Delta, we have witnessed two of our own fight the tumultuous and unpredictable battle with cancer. Although both Emily and Sarah faced and fought cancer with tenacity and fearless spirits, cancer stole Sarah from us, and the world all too soon. But, regardless of what one’s cancer story is – a commonality among all cancer patients is learning how to live with the new normal. And that’s where we come in.

Chemotherapy and radiation change the way one looks. Skin feels different, scalps are smoother, and the face that you used to know looks a bit unfamiliar. Having confidence and having cancer usually are not two things associated with one another. As members in Kappa Delta, an organization that rests on a founding platform that strives to inspire confidence in all people, particularly young women, we felt an obligation to find a way to promote confidence in those tackling cancer, and show our continued support for any and all affected by the disease. So three years ago, Kuts for C∆nfidence
was born. A university-wide haircutting event because, #longhairDOcare.

K4C is rather fabulous. It is entirely student lead and run, founded by the Zeta Iota chapter at Kappa Delta, it is heavily attended by SLU students and St. Louis community members, and it grows bigger each year. Through our third annual Kuts for C∆nfidence, we hope to continue demonstrating to those members of the SLU community affected by cancer our continual support. We also aim to show our school-wide ability to make a difference in the emotional lives of women battling this disease. All of the hair that we donate during this event goes to the manufacturing of wigs for women undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.

We ask that you consider donating to our Kuts for C∆nfidence event in December 2015. Help us remind our sisters, friends, and families battling cancer of the beauty in their fight, and our committed love and support to them throughout the entire process. A little bit of hair, time and money can go a long way.
