Emergency Eviction Fund

Hello-

We’re Myasia and Lara; two friends/roommates living together in NYC since May 2021 (Lara moving from a different country). Despite working full time, we are facing unpredicted financial struggles due to the pandemic. As of January 15th, we face eviction. We have applied to ERAP (emergency rental assistance program) which has exhausted funds so it is highly unlikely we will be able to cover back rent.

We have contacted our landlord, but unfortunately he is only willing to accept the FULL amount owed (rather than a payment plan). As a direct result of covid, we have only been making half of our usual income; most of which is going toward utilities, food, medicine, and pet care.

We humbly and kindly ask for your help. We are aware that we’re not the only ones facing financial hardship. Everyone is facing their own monetary challenges, but nobody should be forced out of their home; especially considering that as service workers we are facing a direct impact in funds with covid outbreaks and closures of work etc.

ABOUT US/HOW THIS HAPPENED:

We both work full-time as restaurant servers. Our hours and income have been unpredictable this year. When we signed our lease, we were in better places financially. Slowly over the last few months, we haven’t been able to keep up with our bills. We work hard, but we can’t seem to get ahead. We moved to the city alone, without any financial support. We don’t have families we can lean on in times of need. We wouldn’t normally ask for assistance, but we don’t know where else to turn.
