Joe's Medical Fund
Donation protected
I am Joe's mother. I am setting this fund up for my son, Joe.
My son, Joe, was in a motorcycle accident late night August 16th or early morning August 17th. He sustained injuries to his left arm, pelvis, left foot and toes, and left leg. The left part of the left knee was shattered and severed a main artery to his lower left leg. He was without blood flow to the lower part of his left leg for almost 6 hours. Thankfully, the vascular surgeon was able to harvest a vein from his right thigh and was able to establish blood flow back into his lower left leg.
He has undergone multiple surgeries since that time. He had to have a plate and pins put into his pelvic bone to put it back together. They put a plate and pins in his left forearm. They had to go in and do multiple surgeries on his left leg. The end of September, they went in and placed a plate and pins in the top of his tibia to try to get ready for ligament and tendon repair. He also had to have skin grafts done to close the openings on his leg and arm. On top of all of this, he has had to have carpal tunnel repair done to both wrists/hands.
He developed a fracture blister and infection and had to have surgery to go in and clean out the infection and placed him on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. Within 2 weeks of being off of the IV antibiotics, he developed another fracture blister and infection and they took him back into surgery and removed the plate and pins in the left leg and put an external bar back on his leg to hold his leg together until the infection could be controlled.
He had already had 9 surgeries and we know that there are still multiple surgeries ahead.
At his point, they have yet to even start on repairing the ligaments and tendons that will allow his knee to work. They are not even sure if he is even going to be able to have a working knee at all once this is all said and done.
We are hoping that sometime within the next 4 weeks they will be able to go in and replace the plate and pins, remove the external bar and hopefully start work on the ligaments and tendons.
Joe has 2 girls and is currently unable to work. Fortunately his wife has a decent job with good insurance, but there is only so much that insurance will cover. At this point, we have no idea if and when he will be able to work.
The best I can tell at this point, they owe close to $14000 for 2014 and are now facing a $5000 deductible for 2015. So I am estimating that $20000 is just going to be a start on what they are going to need help with.
Any help that this fund can give them would be so gratefully received and we all would be so thankful for any and all help
