UPDATE   6/12/2015

·        March 29, 2015 - Soccer Moms Rock 3v3 Benefit Tournament ($1,600 donated to The Scleroderma Foundation, Texas Bluebonnet Chapter)

·        April 13, 2015 - Wes ended up in the hospital and received much needed care for a week. Shelly went to Respite Care at McKinney Health and Rehab.  After 5 days Shelly went to hospital to also receive much needed care.

·        Shelly returned to McKinney Health and Rehab, followed by Wes. We received skilled nursing care, PT and OT, where by both we got stronger. Wes progressed  from walker to cane to now needing nothing. Shelly rode bike sitting in chair daily and progressed to walking 900 feet, at a fast pace! She even got out of her chair and danced with Elvis for 2 minutes. She said it took every bit of concentration to last 2 minutes!

We are currently at North Brook Place (2301 N Brook Dr., McKinney, Tx 75070). We each have our own room, directly across from each other. Both were personally decorated by Wendy and friend Scarlet. Our rooms are now "show rooms" for the facility.
**Carmen Field did an outstanding job and sold our house in one week!
**Wendy and Mike Odell, Jeff and Laurie Greenberg;,and  Daviid and Marta  Whitlock, all came in and located a facility for Shelly and Wes to move to.
**Many friends, Scarlet and her sister, and Wendy, helped get the house packed before closing.

Jan 2015

Shelly and Wes have been active in sports, especially soccer, their entire lives.  They established the Michelob Ladies Football Club (MLFC) a Women’s Amateur soccer team in 1983.  They collected a group of highly talented female athletes, a coach, found corporate sponsorship and lead us on a journey of life building experiences which culminated in our first National Women’s Amateur Soccer Championship in Houston, Texas in 1983.  Over the next ten years, Shelly and Wes continued to drive sponsorship and opportunities for the MLFC team, and also lead the way for several of the Women’s Olympic Soccer team members.  We are all family and we love them like family!

Prior to November 2011, Shelly was a nationally ranked masters swimmer and senior games competitor in breast stroke, pole vaulting and the high jump.  Shelly also dedicated time as a Special Olympics coach, helping coach athletes in swimming and basketball.  She served as the manager for Women’s 80+ Senior Olympics basketball team for fifteen years.

Beginning in 2012, a terrible debilitating disease began to invade her. Shelly has a disease called scleroderma, or systemic sclerosis, a chronic connective tissue disease generally classified as one of the autoimmune rheumatic diseases. Hardening of the skin is one of the most visible manifestations of the disease. Shelly’s skin has tightened on her entire body and her extremities have hardened.  She has had dramatic weight loss and currently weighs 67 pounds. Shelly has been on a feeding tube for the past 18 months. Her sole care provider for feedings (3 times daily), care giving, medical administration and support is her devoted husband, Wes.

Wes and Shelly have been married for 48 years.  He is a Korean War Army Lieutenant veteran, POW and Silver Star Medal recipient.  The Silver Star Medal is awarded for combat valor.

Things have been incredibly hard on them, and their needs are beyond what their fixed income will support.  Anyone who knows Shelly and Wes would say they are the kindest, most loving, and most generous people around!

We are deeply grateful for as much support as you can provide.  Please spread the word to your friends, athletes, Olympic and veteran supporters!
