Tamra is such a kind, compassionate, caring, generous and brilliant soul. She has always helped me get through the toughest times. I honestly don't know how I would have made it through my body giving out without her... of course because she is responsible for my service dog Güber being such an incredible help and companion but she is also an amazing resource and friend. She is able to come in at the hardest moments and somehow, always makes things so much better.
After losing her home to hurricanes Katrina and Rita, she threw herself and all of her skills at helping people, first running a shelter, then working for FEMA running the disaster recovery center. She didn’t ask for help because serving thousands of evacuees made her feel it would be a conflict of interest and wrong. She was working for FEMA and wasn’t going to use her position to ask for what so many were still waiting to receive. She bought a used van with rooftop heater/AC unit and kept her animals safe by plugging it in at campgrounds. When she eventually arrived in New Mexico, the three dogs, parrot and she were ready to get out of the van and find a rental, With a yard.
She has brought so much to people and dogs here and wherever she has been. Whether you are feeling frightened and helpless because even your body is betraying you with a disability or you are feeling discouraged and frustrated because the little furry being that was supposed to be your best friend behaves like a destructive jerk. It is truly amazing and such a gift to have someone help transform and shift everything so graciously. We have an opportunity to do for her what she has done and continues to do for so many.

She needs our help to be able to continue doing her extremely important work which, as her passion and calling, is so important for her as well as those she helps. Even though the Public Health Restrictions substantially affected her business, Tamra was sure to do everything she could to still be able to reach those that need her. That's why when water started raining down from the newly repaired roof, onto the new equipment that would make her business possible now, Tamra's heart sank. Only four days later, another storm brought more water from the ceilings and seeping under the walls. After being unable to work for months before the Pandemic because of the same situation last August, it all felt impossible. It had taken months for the repairs and obviously the repairs hadn’t fixed the problem. If she stays in the damaged and leaking house that keeps knocking her down...I'm afraid it isn't possible for her to continue helping others, and that's where we can help!!

Tamra's spinal cord injury makes everything extra challenging and requires her to work from home. This means the place has to allow for that. She found a wonderful place that even has an outdoor pavilion and garage that can be used for socially distanced in person lessons, something she had thought would be impossible due to the pandemic! She is SO close to having enough to get into a home that is safe, comfortable and dry, which will completely transform her life! The problem is buying that “non-conventional” home will require 20% down, closing costs and moving expenses. There are no appliances in it either.
Since the hurricanes, Tamra has been looking for higher ground and a safe, dry place. It is my sincere hope that we can finally help her recover from the tragic losses she has had to endure and give her a little bit of the help that she has given to so many. Your donation is SO appreciated and will literally help to transform her life and the lives of those this move will allow her to reach...
