Build Hope for Lucia's Birth Family

Please join us in purchasing land and constructing a home for Lucia's birth mom (Wilma), sister (Kimberly) and great grandmother (Juana) in Guatemala.  They currently live in a home constructed with sugar cane reeds on land that they rent.  The house leaks and is lit by candles - a major fire hazard.  The family sleeps on ply wood and covers themselves with plastic to keep off the mosquitoes.  There is obviously no running water or plumbing.  Wilma and Juana support the family by doing laundry in the homes of wealthier families, but they earn very little money.  Their financial situation is precarious, and Kimberly clearly suffers from malnutrition (a sad and unfortunate reality for many children in Guatemala).  

We have the opportunity to purchase them a piece of land and construct a small home.  This home will protect them and help to stabalize their financial situation.  Many people lament that they want to help families in difficult situations throughout the world, but they feel like they can't make a difference.  You can be the difference for this family.

(Obviously constructing a home from thousands of miles away poses some logistical problems.  Mayan Families has been enlisted to help with this process.  The amount we are trying to raise is an approximate cost.  Actual costs could be higher or lower.  Any money raised above the amount needed will go toward helping the family and keeping Kimberly in school.)
