For the people who know my father, Robert, they know that he is kind, funny, and very hard working. For the last 15 years, he has been fixing computers in Clarksville, TN and has hustled to provide for himself. He has always put the needs of his customers and community at the forefront, like walking people through computer issues over the phone or making house calls for the elderly who couldn’t go to him at no cost.
In November, he was diagnosed with Stage IV NSCLC adenocarcinoma after experiencing neurological symptoms. The cancer has spread to his brain, lymph nodes, and bones. Following his diagnosis he was able to do three round of SRS radiation to help treat the brain metastases and swelling, but before he could start any palliative systemic therapy he was hospitalized with a collapsed lung and pneumonia. He’s now at home with a chest tube and supportive oxygen trying to recover so he can begin treatment.
The three things that bring him the most joy are being a father, a grandfather, and taking care of the many animals that he’s rescued over the years. Even through his own struggles, he has always tried to make sure to lend a helping hand, provide for his grandkids, and take the best care of his pets.
Right now, my dad is unable to work and facing mounting copays on top of his basic living expenses. Any support will go directly toward these necessities, giving him the chance to rest, recover, and hopefully begin treatment that could give him more time with us. Even with treatment, his cancer isn’t curable, but any help gives him time to heal and the chance to continue fighting for more time with those he loves. Any contribution is deeply appreciated.
