Hi everybody! Many of you who follow me or are friends with me (Melia) have seen me post, run and participate in mutual aids. As we know, mutual aid is a collective, voluntary effort by community members to meet each other's needs and build networks of care, often in response to failures in institutional systems. I am organizing this mutual aid and top surgery recovery funding for one of the closest people to my heart, K Scully. Many of you may know of K through their art & tattoo work, (@w33dmachin3 on instagram), and many of you may know them in a similar way to how I know and describe them: gentle, humble, compassionate, loving & a serene creature who’s presence is both grounding and magical all at once. K has provided us some info related to accessing top surgery recovery funds/a mutual aid initiative here:

Surgery date: Dec 13 2025

Recovery time 2.5/3 months

Reason needing funds: Funds for recovery time, single income artist taking 2.5/3 months off work with no income coming in to facilitate/support the recovery time. With the double mastectomy and my type of work and how I use my body I’m unable to work until the 2.5/3 month mark. Funds will cover rent, and a few bills and food.

Important info on a more personal note from K: Over the past 7 years discovering that I’m non-binary trans in my 30’s, it’s been a journey up till now but having the language and support from friends and community to have the capacity to fully embrace and have clarity on who I am has been transformative. I’m excited to have the opportunity to finally have my interior world match my external body and to fully embrace my authenticity and bodily autonomy. This is something I have wanted for so long, and have thought deeply about for years. This surgery will help bring me safety & gender euphoria.

On a personal note from me, Melia, as a friend of K’s and as a firm believer in the power of mutual aid: The simple answer, mutual aid both changes & saves lives. I wouldn’t be where I am today without it, and many people who have accessed mutual aid can say the same. In a time where transphobia is especially rampant, we can support trans people by contributing to their care individually and collectively. One example is this, providing the helping funds so K can recover from gender affirming surgery without having to worry about not being able to eat or pay rent is crucial.

We have a goal to raise of $13k by mid December. Keep in mind, there is a GoFundMe fee of 3%, hence us putting the $13500 goal to cover those extra costs/takeaways.
