Cancer Sucks & It Ain't Cheap

This past January, our friend Marianne was in Malaysia, ready to embark upon her Fulbright teaching grant, when she was given the unimaginable, devastating news that she has early stage Hodgkin's lymphoma. Several scans and consultations later, she had a clear picture of what she would be battling: cancer that had spread to several lymph nodes in her chest; she would need six months of chemotherapy; daily blood work; close monitoring and several trips to the hospital each month.
Despite that she's been undergoing months of chemotherapy and facing a slew of debilitating side effects, she still manages to be her bright, shining, cheerful, strong-spirited, fun-loving self! Positive outlook is only half the battle - she needs the support of friends and family! This is costing her more than just her teaching grant because cancer sucks and it ain't cheap!!! The reality is, the combination of not having insurance abroad and taking on an expensive premium is a huge financial burden, especially since she is unable to work and not eligible for disability. Like most of her side effects, her sporadic late-night visits to the emergency room are completely out of her control and hella expensive.
We're reaching out to you to help raise money to go towards her mountain of medical expenses, as well as her everyday expenses, since our girl is stuck at home and can't work.
Marianne is such a giver - she's spent the last 4 years teaching and working in NYC serving low-income communities - and we wanted to do this to give back to her. Not only that, but she's been making the most of her time at home by preparing her grad school applications and finding ways to teach abroad when she's well again. She's looking forward to traveling, writing, and being outdoors once she's in remission.
