On Tuesday evening I saw our good friend, Paul Sikes, say he needed prayers "REALLY bad". I had a feeling it had to do with his pregnant wife Amy & their unborn child who is not due until May 2nd. I sent him a private message to ask if everything was ok and unfortunately, it was not. At just 23 weeks gestation, they were facing the delivery of their baby that evening. With a "normal pregnancy", 37-40 weeks gestation is optimal for fetal development....especially the lungs & brain. That being said, at just 23 weeks and with the baby weighing around 1 pound, it most likely will not be healthy enough to survive, and if he or she does...will spend months in the hospital and face many, many health challenges!
Amy went to the hospital with bleeding and was losing small amounts of amniotic fluid. They feared her water would break that evening which would have meant the baby had to be delivered that evening. The cause for the bleeding is her placenta detatching from the uterine wall. If it detatches completely, she will have to have an emergency c-section. She has been having contractions since going in and they are giving her medicines to slow this down. It works for a bit and then the contractions get closer together again. She is dialated to 4 but the doctors said the contractions varying in intensity and how close together they are, can go on for days or even weeks.
She is on complete bed rest and was told she will not be leaving the hospital pregnant. Every day she can keep their tiny miracle inside is crucial!
The reason for this gofundme is because Amy is clearly unable to work now and Paul would understandably like to be with her as much as possible. I'm hoping we can all come together to relieve of a bit of the financial burden they are going to be facing in these months to come.
They have been married and trying to conceive for many years. After trying to conceive via IUI (two times unsuccessfully), they were estatic to find out she was finally pregnant with a due date of May 2nd, 2015. Today marks 24 weeks gestation. Please consider helping Paul be able to be in the hospital with his wife, as much as possible. He's done so much for others in the way of charities & raising money for the veterans, that I'm hoping he can feel the love & support from his friends and family.
