My Battle With Breast Cancer
Donation protected
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for taking the time to listen to my story. It means a great deal to me.
Never in our wildest dreams did we anticipate finding ourselves in the situation we are currently facing, both physically and financially, especially considering the emphasis we have always placed on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and strong work ethic. However, on June 14th, I received a devastating diagnosis of Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, also known as breast cancer.
Since then, I have undergone a major surgery – a double mastectomy – and am currently undergoing chemotherapy. The treatment plan includes a total of 16 sessions over the next five months, followed by six weeks of radiation. In addition, I will need to undergo two more surgeries in the future.
This battle with cancer has turned our lives upside down, impacting us mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially. What many fail to see is the toll it takes on the entire family, as they sacrifice their time and income to be caretakers and to accompany me to numerous doctor's appointments and surgeries, which come with exorbitant costs. Furthermore, while I was initially supported by short term disability, my pay was significantly reduced, and once that period ended, the intermittent Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) came into effect, which only covers job protection without providing compensation for missed days. Consequently, our expenses continue to rise while our take-home pay decreases.
Regrettably, due to my illness, I have had to prioritize rent and food, resulting in the unfortunate situation of falling drastically behind on countless bills. As a result, we are facing the imminent threat of losing everything we have. Compounding this hardship is the fact that we have no family residing in our state. With a 21-year-old daughter in her final year of college, aspiring to attend medical school, and an 11-year-old son in elementary school, the burden is becoming increasingly overwhelming with each passing day.
In the best-case scenario, all my health issues and necessary surgeries will be resolved and completed by early 2025. However, until then, we are desperately seeking support, which could alleviate the financial strain we are currently experiencing. Your thoughts, prayers, and possible donations would be immensely appreciated during this challenging time.
Once again, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your attention and compassion. May God bless you and your endeavors.
