Help Simon access urgent life-saving treatment

Our dear friend Simon had a melanoma on his side removed in February 2022, following which he was given the hoped-for ‘all clear’. But in December last year, he suddenly found himself struggling to breathe. Subsequent checks found that the cancer was sadly now stage IV and had spread to his sternum, ribs, lungs and liver.

Simon is one of those rare people who appreciates the beauty of each moment, and in this way lifts all of us around him with his contagious interest in life.

He has so bravely and inspirationally faced round after round of chemotherapy through the NHS, but sadly that is no longer working. The pressure from the tumour on his sternum means he is in great pain, which the doctors have tried to manage through targeted radiotherapy.

When the doctors explained the chemotherapy was no longer working and Simon was given only a few weeks to live, Simon and his partner Ami turned to a specialist clinic in Turkey willing to take on his case to reverse the cancer.

Last week Simon and Ami flew to Istanbul for the integrative chemothermia treatment. The doctors were delighted with Simon’s immediate response. He has regained his appetite and the tumour on the sternum has visibly reduced in size. While they have managed to pay for the first two visits, the treatment course will require a minimum of 11 more visits so that treatment can happen every ten days. Each visit costs £7,700.

Simon and Ami are deeply loved members of our community and parent-body. Their children, Ziggy and Frankie, are trying to adapt to this new situation as best as they can while studying for their A Levels and GCSEs respectively this summer.

Along with our prayers and love, and all the wonderful ways that friends are already helping the family during this time, we also want to try and assist them in facing this huge, utterly overwhelming financial burden. Please just give whatever you can manage, together we can and will make a huge difference in helping to raise these funds and to see Simon, Ami and the family come through this illness and treatment.

All money raised will be used to cover the costs of Simon's and the family's treatment, visits and related support.
