Letty Elizabeth Riddle is an 18 month old little girl who was born with two Congenital Heart Defects. When Letty was about 4 months old her parents began noticing that something was not quite right with her, she was having problems growing and she began losing weight. She was determined to be developmentally delayed and then was referred for physical, occupational and speech therapies. She was referred to a Cardiologist in Asheville where they found out that she has a large sized Atrial Septal Defect and Pulmonary Valve Stenosis that required her to be on medication to help keep it under control and make her body be able to rid itself of the extra fluid build-up due to her heart having to work harder than normal. They knew that this defect would require surgery to fix but were all hopeful that she would not need surgery til she was at least 4 or 5 years of age when the heart would be bigger. Over the winter Letty experienced several illnesses that sent her heart back into congestive heart failure even after increasing her heart medication. Her Cardiologist has decided that Letty is not going to be able to wait any longer and she needs to have surgery now to fix her defects. She is going to be having her surgery done in Charlotte, NC at the Levine’s Children’s Hospital. Friday the 8th of April they will travel there for her Pre-op and consultation with the Heart Surgeon. Monday April 11th will be the day that they perform the Open Heart Surgery. We ask that everyone keep Letty in their prayers.
