UPDATE: To all you kind and generous human hearts who donated to help us save Diego ❤️
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our boy on Monday afternoon after he fought so bravely for eight days solid. After a roller coaster of emotions we honestly believed he was going to make it, but in the end we knew we couldn't put him through anymore
Your overwhelming kindness, your messages of love and support, and your generous donations all means the world to us during this incredibly painful time. Every contribution will now go toward the remaining costs, and we are so deeply grateful. For anyone who has asked about contributing directly - QVS in Warana (Sunshine Coast) are also accepting donations via bank transfer. Their details are:

We love you, Diego. You were truly one of a kind. May you rest peacefully now boy, you will remain in our hearts always and forever ❤️
So much love and gratitude to you all ✨
ORIGINAL POST
Hi there my name is Peta, and I’m writing this as a mum and a very proud Grandma to a beautiful wolf-dog named Diego (Husky x Border Collie). My son rescued Diego ~ and in return, Diego saved my son in more ways than we could ever describe. These two are inseparable, and this boy is truly family ♥️
Last Sunday, our strong, loyal boy became critically ill after finding a paralysis tick. He was rushed to the vet and initially responded well to treatment. But on the second night, overnight, he vomited - and because his throat was still somewhat paralysed, the fluid entered his lungs. This caused severe aspiration pneumonia and his condition rapidly declined.
By Wednesday morning, Diego’s condition deteriorated so quickly that he had to be rushed to the emergency hospital at QVS on the Sunshine Coast. He was placed straight onto a ventilator and admitted into the Intensive Care Unit, where he has remained since, fighting for his life with everything he has.
The vets and nurses have been absolutely incredible - caring for him around the clock, supporting us, and giving Diego every chance possible. And our boy has been fighting just as hard. He’s strong, he’s resilient, and he’s progressing very well… but as many people know, intensive care and ventilator support are extremely costly.
So far, with the help of friends, family, and absolute angels, we’ve managed to raise $5,000. But we still need another $19,000 to continue Diego’s treatment and bring him back home to the people who love him beyond words.
We are even willing to repay the full amount to anyone who can assist us in the interim over the next 10–15 weeks, as my son has a stable, and well-paying job. We give our word, wholeheartedly, that we will honour any loan or contribution offered - and with interest if necessary.
If 19,000 people each gave $1, or even 1,900 people gave $10, we would reach our goal. It might seem small, but together these tiny acts of kindness can bring Diego home to us. Every dollar makes a difference
We are not only asking for donations - though any amount helps - but also for shares, prayers, and help spreading this story as far as possible.
If you prefer, donations can also be made directly to QVS Sunshine Coast, where the amazing team caring for Diego can accept them on his behalf.
Diego is not "just a dog." He is family. He is my son’s best mate, his lifeline, and our beloved boy who has given us all so much love, joy, and healing.
Please - if you can help in any way - we would be eternally grateful.
From our family to yours, thank you for reading, sharing, supporting, and holding Diego in your hearts ♥️♥️
With love and gratitude,
Peta (Grandma), my son Zac and our family, and of course our strong boy Diego ✨
