Hello my names Sam. My son and I live in aa small suburb of Launceston Tasmania. Recently my son became ill with vomiting and diarrhea. I took him to my GP after 1 day of vomiting and was told it was gastro and the doctor prescribed maxalon and we went home. The maxalon didn't help and the vomiting continued. I took him to the emergency room on the third day of vomiting. I again was told gastro and told to give him hydrolyte. That night at approximately midnight Jye began to get severe pains in his stomach so once again I took him to the emergency room. They told me they had no beds and it would be a long wait. Jye got absolutely fed up and we went home. I took him to the emergency room twice that night and we never got to see a single doctor. The next day at around 3 in the afternoon Jye began to become unresponsive and kept passing out. I thought enough's enough so I called an ambulance. The ambulance arrived very quickly and stared work on Jye straight away, putting lines in ect. He was rushed to the hospital and taken straight through to resus. They cut away his clothes and began to do all kinds of tests. Within an hour I was told Jye needed an exploritory laparotomy. It took over 3hours so I knew they'd found something but nothing could of prepared me for was to come. He was taken to ICU after his surgery. They had removed his gallbladder because it'd gone septic. They then adviced me his liver had become extremely damaged and he would need a transplant as soon as possible. The next step was to get him well enough to get on a plane and fly him to Melbourne. I didn't leave the hospital that night until well after midnight. The next morning I called to see how he was going and the said they were flying him to Melbourne within the next hour. The hospital social worker rang me and I was on a plane to Melbourne before 2o'clock . Jye was admitted to ICU at the Melbourne Royal Children's Hospital . The doctors told me that without a transplant Jye wouldn't survive 2 days. I had to sign forms ect for him to be put on the donar list. He got a transplant rwithin 12 hours which was absolutely unbelievable. For a day or so he was doing ok. The day after the surgery we found out that something had also begun to attack his muscles and they were beginning to die. We really didn't think the bad news would ever stop. The doctors also then discovered hed gotten compartment syndrome in both his lower legs. They took him back to surgery to apply vacuum dressings to the area. This wound suck out all the excess fluid in his legs to prevent the strangulation of the leg muscles. He's now had 3 surgeries on his legs and the doctors have told us that the muscle doesn't look good. Weve been told to prepare for the worst which is amputation. He has a forth operation soon and we'll know more then. We need financial aid due to being so far from home and having to pay for taxi's, food, drinks accommodation ect. We'll also need help with medical bills and any other help my poor little man might need. Every bit helps. Thankyou.
