Help Jayden's Journey to Recovery after Life-Altering Injury

What happened?

Last summer our lives changed forever when my 17-year-old son, Jayden, was tragically injured in a violent incident that led to a devastating motor vehicle accident. Jayden suffered a gunshot wound to the back and neck, which resulted in a transection of his cervical spinal cord at the C5 level. He was on a breathing machine, tracheostomy tube (trach), and a feeding tube.

He now faces quadriplegia, unable to move or feel from the neck down.

 

Jayden’s Present Day Status: 

Jayden is progressing miraculously. He is no longer on the breathing machine. He no longer has a feeding tube. However he still has a tracheostomy tube (trach). He now has some movements in his shoulders and feeling around his mid-chest area. He can now move his left and right arms minimally “outwardly” meaning he can move them out for a hug for example but he couldn’t bring them back in. Below his mid chest there have been flashes of movement or feeling in his lower extremities but other than that we are still praying and hopeful for a full recovery. (Originally there was no movement at all and he was on a feeding tube and now that tube has been removed.) Mentally he is as strong as ever and is on a path to finishing school and starting a vending machine business.

 

Why We Need Your Help:

Doctors said it could be 18 months before Jayden should even be thinking about movement….

 

Jayden’s path to recovery is long, difficult, and expensive. In addition to the rehabilitation services that are vital to his recovery, our family is facing immense financial strain. We are seeking to raise $150,000 to $250,000 to cover the extensive costs of Jayden’s medical treatment, therapy, and ongoing care. These funds will go directly toward:

 

1.

Jayden requires 24 hour round the clock care and Jayden has in-home nurses who help provide for his care. They are not permanent. We are blessed to say that insurance is covering this fee but when the limit is reached we will be 100% responsible for his care. 24 hours a day for feeding, bathing, etc.

2.

Medical and Rehabilitation Equipment: Adaptive equipment and home modifications needed to ensure Jayden can live comfortably and safely at home.

3.

Transportation Costs: Trips to and from doctor’s appointments, rehabilitation sessions, and therapy visits, as well as family travel to be by his side.

4.

Basic Living Expenses: Housing stability, food, and health resources during this challenging time, as our family adjusts to Jayden’s new reality.

5.

New Medical Treatments and Experimental Equipment and Processes that will aid Jayden’s recovery…

Insurance is a blessing but…

Insurance has been a blessing, however, as we all know, unfortunately, insurance coverage isn’t limitless. Without your help, we won’t be able to provide the life-changing continuous rehabilitation and resources Jayden so desperately needs.
