For those of you who know what our family has been through and have already sent kind messages, dropped off meals, and sent flowers, we want to thank you. We have read every message up to this point and we want you to know they are helping us get through these extremely difficult times. Although we are not ready mentally or physically to respond individually, we want you to know how deeply we appreciate these gestures.
February 17th, 2021 will always be the day our world came to a halting crash. Little did we know, it would also be the best day of our lives. On the morning of February 17, 2021 our daughter Violet Anne Baxter came into this world at 26 weeks gestation, weighing 1050g. I, Lauren have not been able to see Violet in person since she was born via emergency cesarean section. On Wednesday morning, I was waiting for my routine glucose test at Life Labs when I suffered an artery eruption of the spleen and had internal bleeding. I have incisions over my entire torso. Thankfully, I was in the right place at the right time with medical professionals that were able to act quickly and respond, ultimately saving my life. I was rushed to the hospital while 24 hero’s operated on me, putting me on life support in a medically induced coma. My spleen was removed and Violet was born. Everyday my doctors are informing of us of new complications and hurdles I will be facing as a result of the trauma my body has endured. I have a very long road ahead of me.
Violet was immediately taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital. My husband Danny and I have nothing but amazing things to say about the incredible team who is taking special care of our daughter.
We also have an immense amount of gratitude for the team at Mackenzie Health where I am being cared for. As one of the nurses who was here with me on that day, said, “I am a true miracle satisfaction story”. Each day a new face greets me with a huge smile and says to me “I AM SO GLAD TO SEE YOU AND SEE THAT YOUR’RE OK! We were not going to let you die in front of us that day”. These statements fill my eyes with an unbelievable amount of tears.
We are fighters! My husband is a true saviour and has been my rock. He has been travelling between the two hospitals advocating for us, and caring for us during the fight for our lives. We desperately want to get better, to get stronger, and reunite as a family of three.
Thank you for all of your love and support.
Love,
Danny, Lauren, and Violet Baxter
