My Medical Journey
Donation protected
I am currently a high school student working on getting my AA at community college with big dreams and bright eyes towards the future. I work part-time and am always doing odd jobs. Finding work can be tough because I not 18 yet but I would really like to help financially with my family and take charge of my future. As if I wasn’t already a hand full, I was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes; an incurable immune system disease in which the pancreas stops producing insulin. I am quickly seeing how life altering this diagnosis is. strict diet, daily shots, blood tests, and high and low blood sugar that make me ride an emotional roller coaster.
It's also an illness surrounded by misinformation and ignorance. Often confused with type 2 diabetes, type 1 is genetic and extremely rare. Only 10% of the diabetic population is type 1. Not only is it misunderstood, but it is an extremely expensive illness to have. The cost of supplies i.e. insulin, test strips, syringes, and more will be hundreds of dollars a month. Insurance doesn’t always cover the nicest equipment nor does the pharmacy always have what I need same day. Asking for the help financially is tough for me, but I am fighting my ego and humbly asking for your contributions. I want to be excited about the future without my health holding me back. Affording a pump and being able to take pressure off of this life long commitment to keeping myself alive would be an immense help.
