Hello everyone, My name is Khilyn and I am creating this page for my Mom who has recently gone through an extremely devastating moving process as she relocated from Denver CO to Houston TX.
Essentially, she entrusted a family member to move her belongings who she was told had truck and trailer and was willing to do it for less than a professional moving company. My mother, having been given good word from other trusted family members that this would be a good choice, went forward with hiring our cousin for the move. The week of July 1st my mother made her way down to Texas with assurance that her items would be following her shortly there after. Well then came the hurricane as many know devastated Houston. My mom arrived just 3 days prior to no longer having power and needing to come stay with my family in San Antonio for a week until power was restored. With that being said she informed my cousin to hold off on bringing her things until her power was back on.
Fast forward and she is back at home, power restored. She reached out to let our cousin know he could now head down. No response. My mom reached out to his wife and was just told he would be there Saturday 7/20 with still no response from our cousin himself. When Saturday came around my mom grew worried and reached out multiple times and called. Nothing. Finally his wife reached back out Monday 7/22 and told my mom that the truck had been seized by law enforcement and that was all the information she had. Couldn’t tell my mom the county or if our cousin was in jail or why he was even pulled over. My mother then filed a police report in Colorado and they were able to locate the trailer in CO springs. It was indeed seized by law enforcement and the reason being it was a stolen trailer they had been tracking for OVER a month. Per the officers it had looked like a tornado went through the trailer so before they even searched it themselves it had already been ransacked through. The trailer has now been released back to Schneider trucking company and they will hold her things for 9 more days but she is now having to scramble to get whatever she has left on that truck to her new home.
Unfortunately my cousin took not only items, but he was paid 3k to do this move for her, that was all my mom had to get this move done. Of course he has not reached out at all to offer it back and of course it was paid cash there will be no bank disputes. If she can’t prove more then 10k was stolen she’ll be forced to sue him civially which will take time. She does not have time. As mentioned only 9 more days that Schneider will hold her belongings.
My little sister who suffers from cystic fibrosis has all her medications and medical equipment on that truck. Every piece of my mother furniture, kitchen ware, clothing, shoes! Are ON THAT TRUCK. She is absolutely devastated and at a loss of what to do. So I’m reaching to my community. If you know my mom you know she has the hugest heart and life keeps keeping her from feeling that way. None of this was her fault, she needed to relocate to be closer to a better hospital for my sister and now she may have lost EVERYTHING.
ANYTHING HELPS. Literally even a share. Moving is so so stressful and I couldn’t fathom losing everything that took me years to build let alone as a single mother. Please, please, please, help her get her home back to her.
All funds will be put directly forwards hiring a reputable moving company that has already offered to go and get her things off that trailer and bring them directly to her.
We just want closure at this point as this has been such a rollercoaster of a situation and our entire family is affected and devastated. Thank you again for even reading this,but if you could help in anyway just know it is VERY much appreciated.
